Day 7 On to Santiago

Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life. – Omar Khayyam

The section to Padron was the easiest section since the first day which is good since The last section to Santiago would be uphill all the way.

So one last trudge from Padron to the cathedral. The hike was kind of uneventful from a scenic perspective but fear not, this will be more than made up for in the posts regarding the cathedral and my trip the Finesterra, the end of the earth. Also since I have now found a source for elevation profile images I have gone back to my prior posts and added them to the beginning of each day if you are interested. Now back to business.

Santiago de Compestela is a little bigger than Johnson City, Tennessee and a little smaller than Arlington Heights IL to give my two main reading constituencies a frame of reference. Most of the hiking was through the back roads of the suburbs with the final portion being right through downtown Santiago. After days of, albeit arduous, peace and tranquility coming into the city after already hiking 12 miles was a rather rude assault on the senses which honestly surprised as I think prior to this hike I would have never noticed. Anyway, here are the pics. Much more interesting ones IMHO next post.

These are baths which were used in the past by pilgrims the water in these is never potable.

A Church that I walked up and over the stairs in front of rather than in the road. The road hiking was IMHO the most dangerous part of this trek. Probably walked 2 to 3 kilometers along major highways. Think US 11 or US 12 traffic at full speed, no shoulders.

At first I thought the above structure was used as a family burial plot. Kind of creepy. Later learned they are used for storage. Originally food but in urban areas the are the equivalent of a storage shed in the states.
