A fun evening in Finisterre

With the hike over for the day and a certificate in hand, it was time for a moment of relaxation and a little recreation. After all the end of the earth was near but not yet achieved.

So, the sunset at the lighthouse was supposed to be impressive, thus the plan was to take a cab to the lighthouse, look around and hang around for the sunset. We were done walking for the day so we asked the hotel to get us a cab for the 2 mile uphill trip to the Farro (which is Spanish for lighthouse).

Finisterre Lighhouse
This entire building houses the fog horn, the bells of which are shown above

Of course at the end of the light house complex is the actual end of the earth moving from left to right as shown in the gallery below:

After hanging around the lighthouse for a bit we decided to formally document reaching the end of the earth by taking pictures at mile marker 0,000 (In Europe they use the comma as we use a decimal point just fyi)

I should note at this point that while I have been whining about my knee, all of us were dealing with some form of malady during this portion (Santiago to Finisterre). Mike was fighting a cold (I think I prefer my knee, it only hurt going down hill) and Melanie was getting over a cold and was having terrible pain in her neck. So, we were WWWW; Wincing, wheezing, walking, wounded lol. But, we made it.

Off to the right of the photo above was a little bar/cafe clinging to the side of the cliff which made for a perfect place to watch the sunset. So we scooted in and snagged the last good table. Our fellow perch mates were from France, Spain, Florida and a player to be named later (as in I don’t know).

It was at little airish (that’s southern for cool) but basically comfortable and with a nice bottle of Rioja to share with friends, who cared! So, I’m going to shut up now and let you enjoy first, my first attempt at a time lapse video and second a live video of the last minute of the sunset.

After the sunset we went back into town for dinner down by the waterside.

After a tasty dinner and another bottle of Rioja 🙂 we were more than ready to toddle of for a goodnight’s sleep prior to starting our hike up the Costa da Morte….the Coast of Death! (Don’t you just love the dramatic names lol)
