Lires to Muxia the final push

The morning started of gray but not damp as we left the hotel. The windmills on the hill from yesterday was our first goal for the day. But not until we went down to cross a river so that we could have the enjoyment of climbing all the way up again lol.

down to the river bridge
I was always amazed at how clear the water was every stream we crossed

This day was going to be slightly on the harder side of average. 9 miles, most of which was uphill, no services or rest stops along the way, with a long downhill grade at the 2/3rds mark going all the way down to the sea. Since this was our sixth day of hiking the distance without pause and the uphill pull were not a walk in the park but definitely doable. My concern was the long downhill grade and my balky right knee.

and up
elevation was measured by windmills

Excellent shot of a windmill, was hoping we would get closer but didn’t. Good example of dual mile posts, the one on the right points to Muxia, the one on the left, partially hidden by Melanie, points to Finisterre.
As we gained elevation the views were ever more impressive
Our first glimpse of the sea in the distance
With false hope given, another uphill grade
But the clouds started to clear out to give us an excellent view
And finally, we started downhill to the sea

So uphill was no issue whatsoever, but the long downhill was my concern. While my knee kept threatening, it behaved all the way done the hill. Really?!? it only took you 66 miles to get with the program!?! Seriously?!? LOL but we were rewarded with some amazing scenery.

sounds of the sea

From this point, until we reached the center of town we were along the Atlantic ocean. We were tired but of high spirits.

Until we finally made in to Muxia!

Or “Axium” as the case might be LOL

Mike, Melanie and I in a selfie…who new the name would be backwards LOL

We continued into town to collect our certificate

This was one evening where the Salvinos and I stayed in different places. Mike and Mel had a third floor walk up with a balcony which was very nice.

While I ended up with an ocean view from my room.

Room with a view

Next post, another view of the end of the earth from the Church of the Rock or in Gallego “Virxe da Barca”.
