Moving into the house we turn to the more well known perspective of Churchill the statesman.

Churchill enjoyed entertaining guests at Chartwell and the home was designed to accommodate to facilitate same.




The Who’s who of pre WW2 were in attendance. Such as:

Such as Lord Arthur Balfour of the Balfour declaration which stated the intention of, in essence, the creation of the nation of Israel.

Lord Beaverbrook of Fleet Street. The William Randolph Hearst of Great Britain.


Of course work got done as well in the private offices.



Chartwell was basically abandoned during WW2 due to its proximity to the French coast and vulnerability to attack.
Chartwell is full of memorabilia including some of the uniforms he wore over the years.


As this is not a dissertation on Sir Churchill we will conclude this segment and move on to Churchill the artist.
