I don’t know why but I find that, early in the morning, train stations are fascinating. An amalgamation of desolation and technology, is a juxtaposition which has a certain friction that is appeal to me….go figure.

As we left Foligno the next stop was Trevi, where the Black Celery Festival is held last year (go to last year’s trek for more). From the train track I got a decent shot of the “storico” or historic district on top of the hill.

Apologies the shot wasn’t clearer the trains windows were not exactly pristine lol.
Then on to the bedlam that is the Rome Airport.

After connecting with Antonio, our driver, we made our way out of Rome, rather quickly surprisingly, and started our three hour drive to the city of Vasto on the Adriatic coast. It was on the drive that I first realized that I just thought I had been in the mountains in Italy.

Now of course the Dolomites (the Italian Alps) are taller but Corno Grade is the second highest peak in the Appinines at 9,553 follwed closely by Gran Sasso at 9,594′ which is is the tallest peak in the Appinines and the second highest in Italy

So, settling into my hotel room before dinner, I was treated to this view from my balcony.
