A day by the angry Adriatic and an evening of homemade Pizza d’Italia

We started the morning going for a short hike at Punta Aderci just north of the commercial harbor for Vasto. It was a very raw and windy day yet a long sleeve shirt with my rain shell as a windbreaker kept things fairly comfortable. This would normally be a leisurely stroll along the sun baskedContinue reading “A day by the angry Adriatic and an evening of homemade Pizza d’Italia”

Busy day part 3: A tour of the town, an interesting relic and the local delicacy of Abruzzo.

After a little while to rest at the hotel, we met Fabrizio for a tour of the city of Vasto, his home town. As I mentioned earlier this was the coldest weather to hit Vasto at this time of year in thirty years, so it was a brisk walk. The shot above is near whereContinue reading “Busy day part 3: A tour of the town, an interesting relic and the local delicacy of Abruzzo.”

Busy day pt2 a visit to the Art Agriturismo and the angry Adriatic

After the visit to the olive oil mill we then went for lunch to an Agriturismo with an artistic flair. It stands on top of a mountain with a wonderful viewContinue reading “Busy day pt2 a visit to the Art Agriturismo and the angry Adriatic”

Pasta making on a rainy day; And guess what? I found out that we (la famiglia Scudere) cook Abruzzi style LOL.

We started the morning going to the local farmer’s market to buy the ingredients for the days lunch which we were going to create at Fabrizio’s cousin, Rosa’s home along with Fabrizio’s mother Anna Marie. The exterior of the facility was decorated with ceramic tiles, the artwork of which was done by local school children.Continue reading “Pasta making on a rainy day; And guess what? A visit with “Zia Miranda” and company at the Agriturismo.

This morning we drove roughly 30 minutes into the Abruzzi countryside to an “Agriturismo” an innovation found predominantly, I think, in southern Europe. An Agriturismo is a working farm with a restaurant and or Inn attached as an adjunct business. According to Fabrizzo, the guide/owner of Italia Sweet Italia tours, the agriturismo program was startedContinue reading “A visit with “Zia Miranda” and company at the Agriturismo.”
