A time of change

There have been several different ways that I have wanted to start this blog. Originally, I was going to focus on what I have gone through preparing for my trek, and I may still get around to that, but, over the last eleven days, events have been occurring more rapidly than I would have ever conceived and I am presently 11 days out from my trek with more to get done than I had planned because life happens. Eleven days ago I retired LOL Yeah, right, after my “retirement” I was in the office tying up loose ends for two days, conference calls the third, packing up my office the day of the Food City 500 rain out, rained out race on Monday and then head South Tuesday to meet my new clients. Ok, busier than I had intended but manageable.

Then , life happened. My good friend, Darrel Skinner, who had finally decided to hang up the spurs for good, and who was introducing me to his clients as he said good bye had a heart attack while we were together on the road. Not good. I have been standing watch in Panama City and will be picking his family up this afternoon from the airport. I say all of that to say this is one of the reasons that I am doing this Camino now. No one is guaranteed a tomorrow. My subsequent posts will be of a much lighter nature Lord willing. But, it just did not seem appropriate to make this first post without acknowledging that ultimately the universe, in whatever form your belief system manifests it, ultimately names the tune.
