“Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer.” – Denis Waitley
So, we started our last day of hiking going in the wrong direction. My fault. We were staying in downtown New Castle, an impressive example of the power of the British empire in the late 19th, early 20th century as shown in the pictures below

In the first photo the red and white structure is a swing bridge. For those folks from my hometown, Alton IL, this is a familiar structure as there was a railroad swing bridge located next to old lock and dam 26 on the Mississippi.
So, the problem, in retrospect, was the fact that we were staying in the lower part of town and the sun was not readily visible. Thus I thought we were facing north when we were actually facing south. So we crossed the swing bridge and started of with vigor in the wrong direction. Fortunately Mike Salvino, was cross checking with his GPS which I finally agreed with when the map showed that we should be looking at two bridges if we were where I thought we were and there were no bridges! So, around we turned after walking roughly a quarter mile in the wrong direction. We then crossed the Millennial bridge on the east side of downtown.

From there we hiked along the Tyne river.

and one more small, relative to what we had been climbing, hill to clear. Then, we made it Segedunum!

The remains of the fort weren’t all that impressive but the museum was very good.

Looks like a fun day!!!
