Like all great travellers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen. –Benjamin Disraeli
Today as we approached New Castle was pretty much a grind it out day. In this area most of the wall had been pilfered for building materials but the scenery was pretty and the group was in good humor, typified by Melanie climbing a tree.

We continued on to Wallsend where the last section of wall on the east coast of the UK remained.
As we would be losing what elevation we had remaining shortly, I tried to take a couple of more panoramic shots.

As with Spain, after being in such remote settings for several days, moving back into the urban environment was somewhat of an assault on the senses. Punctuated when we crossed the M6

After a while longer we finally reached Heddon-on-the-Wall to see the last section of wall in the east.

We had made good time so the plan was to cut the hike short a little bit and visit a railway Museum in Wylam recommended by our waitress. As we moved out of Heddon-on-the-Wall a last chance for some elevated scenery shots presented itself.

Unfortunately, my gps got confused and we missed the turn for the museum and finished our hike. In the last two long miles we were entertained by some pre-teen future Nelsons doing battle in canoes on the Tyne.

After 11 miles the pub looked like heaven when we arrived.

After a pint πΊ and some tea βοΈ (I had the pint π) we took a taxi back to the railway museum…..one room in the Wylam town library ππ. The Librarian, Margret Kelly was happy to see us and turned on the light in the room so we could peruse. It was a cute museum that chronicled the fact that the New Castle area was where the steam locomotive was invented.

We had asked the taxi to return in an hour so we got to cool our heels in the library waiting area for about half of that. Ahhh nap time π΄
Tomorrow the conclusion of the hike, but not the trip, as we walk through New Castle reach the Eastern most fort at Segedundum.
Am so enjoying following your journey Lou! I am going to do something like this someday! Thanks so much for sharing.
