He’s at it again!

“Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends” (Emerson Lake and Palmer circa 1973)

Well, it’s been a little over a year dear readers and I am about to head off on another adventure. This time to the English/Scottish border to walk the northern most border of the Roman Empire, Hadrian’s Wall.

So, first let me catch you up a bit on the past year. Retirement, or at least semi-retirement: I highly recommend it. I’m not sure that I would have been able to go cold turkey from working to full retirement but my one man band consulting practice (shameless plug: www.riverbendretailconsulting.com ) has kept me just busy enough to not be bored with enough income to fund my taste for hiking, single malt scotch and cigars though I have found myself becoming more, shall we say “discerning”, with my expenditures as I downshift from the steady paycheck of the corporate world.

Last year my friends from Memphis whom I met on the Camino, the Salvinos, while we were still in Spain, expressed an interest in hiking the Hadrian’s Wall path in England. Mike is a big Roman history buff. I wasn’t really of a mind to do this hike at first but as time went on I found that I really missed the challenge of the preparation and getting myself into condition so sometime late last year or early this year I told Mike and Melanie I would be up for the trip. Just to remind folks, I hike, I do NOT camp lol. I think this is one of the reasons that hiking overseas is so appealing.

So, I’ll wrap this for the moment with a map of my trek to be and some shots taken by professionals, I think, from the area where I will be hiking in just 9 days. Happy Labor Day.
